Memories and Stillness

I love the smell of clean sheets, the smell of Tide and the sensations that my hands feel when I run them across the duvet. Where does these memories take me?

Ever just want to escape? Away from your cell phone, Blackberry, computer, television, radio, anything and everything that connects you to the outside world? MORE>

Blog Purgatory

Today I had two experiences, each involving a blog. First, I read a post in a blog today that gave easy steps and advice on “How to write a blog”. The second was visiting a friend’s blog and seeing the last entry was in September. One was to encourage you to write a blog, the other was the remnants of a blog. MORE>

Who’s in the Muu Muu?

I have decided to come out as  the true hermit that I am. Here’s my shopping list for the Hermitage:

1. Two dozen feral cats.

2. A beat up lawn chair.

3. Fuzzy slippers in pastel colors.

4. Granny panties that go up to my armpits.

5. Two live chickens.

6. A subscription to Parade Magazine.

7. CDs of every musical by Harvey Feirstein

8. The whole Cheryl Tiegs Wig Collection

9. A 50 Gallon drum of Yuban Coffee

10. Support hose.

11. A dozen Muu Muus made from old yoga pants.

12. Install wall-to-wall shag carpet

So come visit, just wear boots and avoid the tabby, she bites. And if you are out late at night and see me taking out my trash wearing a man’s raincoat, just nod your head, waving will spook me.

Seriously though, the world is changing and freelancing will be the work that most of us will be contracted for. Which means we will be working from home or a studio. That cuts down our socialization. We start nesting in our work areas and develop online relationships that keep our conversation chops sharp. Are we hermits? In a way we are, but our human nature is to be with people. I see more networking groups developing to serve the Hermits. Is there a business in this? Maybe, but lets concentrate on the healthy part of a social life before we start thinking of ways of charging for it.

The Fun Fair

How many bookmarks do you have? I have over 10 folders and each one holds an average of 100 bookmarks. These have been gathered over the last 8 years. I have even more on my other laptops that I had not transferred over, just because I wanted to start fresh with each new computer. Going back and looking at those bookmarks is like a walk back in time, a road map backwards and as I scroll through, I can see the burning heaps alongside the road.  MORE>

Are You Ready to be Shaken Up?

Thursday Nov. 13, 2008 10:00 am PST

I am sitting at my desk listening to my latest French pop downloads, my hand reaches for the coffee mug. I feel the hot liquid splash across my arm as the mug is knocked out of my hand by a falling picture frame. The dogs are yelping and running under my desk. Dust fills the air as the plaster wall crumbles. The lights go out, or did the music stop first? I lurch forward grabbing the heavy desk. The windows shake and two windows shatter in the other room. Shrill sounds comes from the wooden house frame as we sway to and fro. The fish bowl is on the floor, and my little red beta flops gasping. Has it stopped yet? Am I still moving? I can’t tell, all the circuits in my brain are blown. I reach down with a shaking hand and grab the fish and step over what was left of my windows to a glass of water that miraculously stayed upright. I throw in my poor little beta. I look around and think “what where who why?”   MORE>

Values

With all the talk about “small town” values, I know that our values are based on who we are, not where we are.
