The Vandercook Press

This is the press that I print on. One sheet at a time. Hand mixed inks, hand set type, hand fed paper. It’s very intense. I love it.

Congratulations!

My take on the 21st Century version of “Congratuations”. Stationary set.

Letterpress on a Vandercook proofing press. Goudi and Futura Light fonts. The bird cards are block prints by Gwen Frastic (late 1960’s).

Press Run of 100 cards.

Hot off the Press!

Mr. Pooh is for me, Black Clock is for my client California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
It’s a 2 fer 1. Vandercook Proofing Press with Sans Serif Display Wood Type, hand mixed orange ink. I am going back into the studio on Sunday. More ink, more solvent fumes.

Logrolling: Dear Ada

Really nice mention on Dear Ada: “I really like these collages by ophelia chong using photographic images to create the motifs of the pieces. There’s a wonderful energy and character about this work making it feel so fresh, organic and modern. Yum!”

Dear Ada, thank you.

A Short Romantic Evening

Glitter Photos

Yes it was magical.

The moonlight walk along the Atlantic shore by the Golden Bucket’o'Nuggets Casino…the hobo asking for change, and you silly bear, when you pulled a nickel from his ear, I almost cried tears of joy (but it was really the smell of urine and stale beer) . Too bad he ran off with my purse, but what is the pain of getting all new credit cards and IDs compared to a simple chuckle with you.

Ahhh…then an early breakfast at the Waffle House. You ordered the Huckabee Berries and Waffling, and I got the Obama Omelet. We politely agreed to not share our breakfasts. You taught me the meaning of going “Dutch”, such a quaint custom. Those Dutch people must save lots of money on eating out!

When you saw me off at the Greyhound station, I was almost unable to board my EasyRide Express because you borrowed my last five dollars for cigarettes. The extra change I found in the newspaper box was just what I needed. As the clock ticked, I looked up into your good eye and bade you farewell. The bus driver honked. Luckily you shoved me forward in time to get the last seat by the lavatory.

Ahhh…magic.

Lunar Eclipse

February 20, a total Lunar Eclipse, an extremely powerful Full Moon, peaks at 7:31 PM PST at 1º50’ Virgo-Pisces. Integrating matter and spirit, head and heart, judgment and forgiveness–the Virgo-Pisces axis–encodes the fundamental challenge of our time. – Stephanie Austin

Taken from my backyard. I stood on the uppermost part of the hill in my backyard. I watched the small sliver of silver slide away.

Sorry, I Had To Cut My Hair

It was driving me nuts. So I went to the Super Cuts down the street and had it whacked off on Sunday. Now I look like a short Chinese Guy.
