OCD – Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or what I like to think of it as: Ophelia Chong’s Day.

I Chose "Delusional"

Choose your psychosis : tom flemming lets you pick.

People experiencing psychosis may report hallucinations or delusional beliefs, and may exhibit personality changes and disorganized thinking. This may be accompanied by unusual or bizarre behaviour, as well as difficulty with social interaction and impairment in carrying out the activities of daily living.

isitoff.com

Here’s my first outline on the UI for isitoff.com, the site for OCD.

1. You will be able to rearrange your page over and over, until you get it just right. And then someone will tell you it’s “too pink” and you go back and do it over again.

2. You will be prompted three times “Are you sure you want to log off?”

3. You will be made to enter your password twice. Just in case you got it wrong the first time.

4. Your profile pic will never be quite right, so we will offer you cartoon heads to choose from.

5. You will not be able to turn off Notifications. Because you will always want to know if someone needs or wants to talk to you.

6. Mobile: messages will go to your mobile with the Alert Level on RED at all times.

7. If someone visits your page, we will offer “Clean Sweep”; an animated vacuum will sweep the page for loose hairs and cookies.

8. You will be able to post the same message over and over. We encourage this.

9. You will be able to post the same message over and over. We encourage this.

More to come. Really. I just have to go wash my hands and check the door locks. And I don’t shake hands, I bump elbows. Now to eat my 1/4 cup of oatmeal.
Those are not my Hands.

Lemon And Poppy Seed: Multitasking Creativity

I spent a few hours uploading work for a new book to Die Gestalten, a German publisher of art books last night. Very excited and honored by the inclusion on this book. Here’s the blurb they sent about the book:

Title: Lemon and Poppy Seed
Subtitle: Multitasking Creativity

The job description of graphic designers has changed. Classical graphic design is now being influenced by various design principles from the areas of typography, illustration, art and installation.
Exciting work is currently being produced that is not necessarily created by graphic designers, but by independent spirits who work in interdisciplinary ways with a variety of skills. This new generation of talent is developing a visual vocabulary that is refreshingly off-key and inventing their own original design language.
Lemon and Poppy Seed will be a compilation of work by these young, international artists. Their styles defy current trends and classifications and are all the more brilliant for doing so. The book takes readers on a whirlwind creative journey that proves that these newcomers are a creative force to be reckoned with. Lemon and Poppy Seed is meant to be perfect source for those who want to see the organic development of new artistic terrain before the mainstream attempts to erect shopping centres upon it.

A site for OCD social networkers

I want to create a social networking site for people with OCD. I have the url isitoff.com To log in, you have to do it twice (just to make sure) and when you log off, the site will ask “Are You Sure?” three times.

More to come on this.

Got an email from www.die-gestalten.de
to submit my work for a new book Lemon and Poppy Seed / Multitasking Creativity. Now to gather artwork for them.

Your Job No Longer Exists

At breakfast a few weeks back, I had a conversation with a friend who just took the severance package to quit (the other choice was to wait to be fired eventually with less severance) from a large corporation. I went through my pep talk; included in this was the need for her to get online and to post her work. What she said did not surprise me, because I have heard it too many times. “I don’t do that, I don’t even email“. The reason her job no longer exists is because she doesn’t email. The internet has changed the way we work. It has taken jobs that were viable 10 years ago and made them obsolete.

Every job out there now demands knowledge of the following:
Digital Communication
The Internet
Social Online Networking
A paperless office
Interfacing with people/clients you might never meet
(feel free to add to the list)

What I found disturbing was the fact that people will close their eyes and hope that the speeding train does not hit them. It’s beyond just accepting the fact that the job landscape has changed, now you have to educate yourself or you will be left in the dust. Pleading that it’s “too complicated” is no excuse. You have to dive in with your eyes open and be ready to learn swim. Because you will swim. And you will say to yourself “I should have done this sooner”.

heelpress

Up on the front page on HeelPress.com

I am preparing the mini portfolios that will be going out to prospective clients for my illustration. I go into the letterpress studio next week with plates I am making. Two for cards, two for mailing labels. The artwork will go into a box (4″ x 6″ x 1″), wrapped in “XXL” lettered tape (the kind you see on Gap shirts). The mailing labels will be letterpress. Really going to be elegant and hand intensive. In the box will be a card listing the sites that mention my work.
